On October 19, 2024, the Austrian Gliding Day took place at the Niederöblarn airfield - a real must-see for all gliding fans. A special highlight was the presentation of the extensively revised new edition of Bert Schmelzer's book "Next Year of Gliding". We have reissued the book, expanded it by more than 50% with new content, designed it in the high-quality VIENTO design and it is now published in German and English in one volume.
The book was very well received and Bert personally signed all the copies while having lots of interesting conversations at the VIENTO stand. Another highlight was his talk on how to fly from Austria to Switzerland. Many pilots dream of seeing the Matterhorn from the air - and with Bert's information and his motto "Never stop exploring" they now know how to make the adventure a success.
The Gliding Day also had an exciting program with specialist lectures and the award ceremony for the Austrian Cross-Country Championship – a must for anyone who wants to be at the forefront of gliding.
On Sunday, Simon had the chance to take air-to-air photos of the brand new VENTUS 3 E in brilliant morning light – perfect conditions to capture the aircraft in the best light.
